Spanish Schools in Samara
If you decide to study
Spanish in Samara, you’ll find yourself in a small beach town
in the Nicoya Peninsula, on the western, or Pacific, coast of
Costa Rica. Samara is relatively easy to reach from San Jose by
bus (5 hours), and local communications are good, with a paved
road from Nicoya.
The biggest attraction
for Spanish students in Samara is without a doubt the long,
wide beach. Samara’s bay is sheltered by a coral reef, which
makes it safe for all kinds of water sports, such as
windsurfing, sport fishing, kayaking, swimming, diving,
snorkeling, surfing.... The beach has also been awarded the
Blue Flag in recognition of the clean sand and water. All in
all, Samara beach is considered one of the safest and prettiest
in Costa Rica.
Outside your Spanish
classes, you’ll finds plenty of things to do. Samara is a
thriving tourist resort with plenty of hotels, restaurants,
bars and discos, but it has also retained its charm as a
bustling farming and fishing center. It’s a small community, so
you’ll find that it’s not too difficult to get to know the
local people and to practise your Spanish by chatting to them.
Unlike many tourist resorts in Costa Rica, the businesses in
town are still mainly in the hands of local
“Ticos”.
Many Spanish language
students come to Samara to combine their Spanish studies with
surfing classes. While Samara is great for surfing in its own
right, you’ll find that if you progress enough, you’ll be able
to try your luck on the nearby pros’ beach, Playa Camaronal,
just 12 km south.
The other favorite
activity of Spanish students in Samara is to explore the
neighboring towns and beaches in the Guancaste region. But,
whatever you do during your Spanish course in Samara, you can
be sure you’re not going to be bored!
