Learn Spanish in Guanajuato

For a step back in time, consider spending some time in the remarkable city of Guanajuato. Located beside the Sierra de Guanajuato Mountains, this historic city was home to the famous Valenciana silver mine that produced almost two thirds of the world's silver in the 1800’s. Currently the city is a wonderful tourist spot and also attracts people that wish to learn Spanish in Guanajuato. The rich heritage and features of the city and the surrounding area make this a perfect place for a vacation or holiday, no matter what you enjoy.

If you're interested in coming to learn Spanish in Guanajuato, you'll soon learn that the city itself must be visited by walking. There are only two major streets for vehicles in the city, one entering and one leaving. Guanajuato is actually entered by an underground tunnel that follows the original riverbed of the Guanajuato River. A dam that was built in the early 1960’s has now contained the river.

The streets of the city are very narrow with many small alleys bisecting the streets. While you're here to learn Spanish in Guanajuato, you'll almost certainly visit one of the most famous of the alleys, or callejones - the Callejon del Beso, or Alley of the Kiss. This alley is so narrow that lovers could lean across the alley on their balconies and kiss each other. Now a popular tourist spot, wandering musical groups often tour the alleys and sing traditional Mexican songs in the evenings. The houses in Guanajuato are a curious mix of European and Mexican, with pastel colors, ornate iron balconies and painted exteriors. Flowers and small gardens are found in most yards and flower vendors are on most street corners.
